Balance Score Cards and Dashboards

Creation of balance score cards and dashboards for business management

Balance Score Cards and Dashboards

For the effective control and business management
“Not everything that counts can be counted, and not everything that is counted truly counts.”
Albert Einstein

Each company has a better chance of achieving management objectives if it breaks them down into small objectives entrusted to individual collaborators and provides them with the appropriate tools to verify the results achieved progressively.
Balance Score Cards have a holistic management approach, therefore they are an effective tool for measuring company results and allow us to understand if management is proceeding in the correct direction towards the objectives and in which areas it is necessary to take action to improve.

The corporate information system is rich in data and information that feed the corporate reporting system in charge of processing documents distributed to the various recipients.
In the most advanced and organised companies, the reporting is characterised by being a dynamic system, designed to adapt to the emerging business needs, well integrated into the internal company communication system.
Its purpose is to disseminate data and information to facilitate the comparison between the functions and update the staff on the progress of the company.
In less advanced companies, the reporting is characterised by the specialisation of the documents so that each department or function receives specific documents strictly related to its function. This is due to an outdated view of business management that leads the various functions of the company to operate separately from each other. In these companies, an overall sharing of data and information between the departments takes place only in management meetings, and this creates an information gap between the management and the staff.

Modern organised companies have experienced the advantages of balance score cards with a holistic and inclusive approach for a long-term growth in turnover and profitability.
Such results are achieved when all the people in the organisation, regardless the function which they belong to, work responsibly and are aware that every action affects various aspects of business management.

For this reason it is good to involve not only the management but also their collaborators and give them a broad and detailed information on what the creators of the BSC define perspectives: 1) financial, 2) the customer, 3) process improvement, 4) learning and development of the organisation.
In practice, it is not a question of creating new reports but simply improving those in use and making them available to the managers and other people involved so that, thanks to the four aforementioned perspectives, they can all develop an overall vision.

For this reason, large projects, that risk not to be completed, must be discarded, as well as projects that end with the delivery of new dashboards rich in graphics and data, but which do not fit the receiver’s needs because they are designed from others.

Advantages of this project:

  1. Start a process that increases the company competitiveness and foster the personnel engagement in operational processes;
  2. Develop a common and shared vision of company management with focus on the objectives to be achieved;
  3. Rationalise the reporting system by reducing the number of reports distributed in the company to keep those actually used by the recipients;
  4. Savings due to lower consumption and less time related to the elimination of paper or e-mails.
